MANAGING ATTORNEY
Claudia is an ILD Managing Attorney overseeing the organization's litigation and policy efforts in federal courts, including challenges to removal orders, challenges to detention, and efforts to secure transparency and accountability from the immigration agencies.
EXPERIENCE Prior to joining ILD, Claudia was part of the Transparency team at the American Immigration Council (AIC), where she engaged in innovative efforts to secure transparency from the immigration agencies–work she continues in her tenure as Managing Attorney at ILD. Previously, Claudia worked at the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) for nearly two decades. During her tenure at NIJC, Claudia led the efforts to expand NIJC's work providing legal consultations at immigration jails to detained individuals, expand NIJC's detained removal defense services, including challenges in the federal courts and advocacy on behalf of individuals facing removal on the basis of criminal convictions, and was instrumental in growing NIJC's national litigation work in detention and crimmigration matters. Claudia initially joined NIJC as an Equal Justice Works (EJW) Fellow, focusing on legal representation and advocacy on behalf of individuals facing removal while in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody and NIJC's detention program.
EDUCATION Claudia holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a J.D. from DePaul University College of Law. She is a member of the Illinois bar and is fluent in Spanish.
