SENIOR LEGAL ASSISTANT

Genaro is an ILD Senior Legal Assistant. He first joined ILD as a translator and now works on outreach efforts and administrative support for clients applying for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS).

EXPERIENCE While a student at UC Berkeley, Genaro volunteered with the East Bay Sanctuary Covenant, where he conducted client intake interviews, supported office management efforts, translated legal documents, and worked as an interpreter during asylum interviews and psychological case evaluations. As a student, Genaro worked with the Immigration Institute of the Bay Area (IIBA) in their Oakland office as a receptionist while supporting staff with client outreach and interpretation during legal consultations. After graduating and returning to Southern California, Genaro volunteered with the Orange County Communities Organized for Responsible Development (OCCORD)’s Citizenship Application Fair, where he assisted applicants in filling out their N-400 citizenship forms under the supervision of pro-bono attorneys. Genaro has worked at various non-profit organizations in both Northern and Southern California, supporting educational access and student success.

EDUCATION After earning an AA in Philosophy from Fullerton College, he transferred to UC Berkeley, where he holds both a B.A. in Philosophy and Spanish Literature. He is fluent in Spanish.
