SENIOR LEGAL ASSISTANT

Iván is an ILD Senior Legal Assistant where he supports clients applying for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS). During his career, Iván has supported many college students and other young immigrants, as well as their families, to access immigration relief. He has special expertise in supporting Special Immigrant Juvenile Status cases preparing cases at the federal immigration level and in California state court.

EXPERIENCE While a student, Iván interned for immigrant legal providers, including the East Bay Sanctuary, where he was a BIA-accredited representative, as well as Jewish Family and Children’s Services of the East Bay and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Oakland. At IRC, Iván also worked as an Immigrant Caseworker and served hundreds of low-income refugee and immigrant clients from all over the world. In 2017, he volunteered with a pro-bono legal project in Dilley, Texas, to help detained immigrant mothers and their children prepare for their credible fear interviews.

EDUCATION Iván holds a B.A. in History from UC Berkeley and is an ABA-certificated graduate of the SFSU Paralegal Studies program. Iván is fluent in Spanish.
