SENIOR LEGAL ASSISTANT
Javier is an ILD Senior Legal Assistant supporting our Legal-Education partnerships with the California State University (CSU) and California Community College (CCC) systems, unique programs that provide immigration legal services to students, staff, faculty, and their families, as well as recent alumni, at dozens of public higher education campuses throughout the state. Javier joined ILD with expertise in humanitarian immigration relief, specifically relief available to victims of crimes. In this capacity, he works on the preparation of U Visa cases and VAWA self-petitions. Javier also supports the preparation of family-based petitions and assists in cases from the National Qualified Representative Program (NQRP), supporting individuals who have been determined by the immigration court to be unable to represent themselves due to mental health disabilities.
EXPERIENCE Prior to joining ILD, Javier worked as a DOJ Accredited Representative at a non-profit in Los Angeles, CA, where he represented immigrants who were victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other violent crimes. Javier has extensive experience handling U Visa, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Adjustment of Status, Consular Processing, Naturalization, and DACA cases. Javier has served the immigrant community for 10+ years.
EDUCATION Javier holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is fluent in Spanish.
