SENIOR LEGAL ASSISTANT
Kathleen is an ILD Senior Legal Assistant supporting clients as part of ILD’s Legal-Education partnership with the California State University Systems, a unique program that provides immigration legal services to students and community members of nine CSU campuses.
EXPERIENCE She joined ILD with over fourteen years of experience as an immigration paralegal working in both Georgia and California. While in Georgia, she worked at several law firms where she helped file both affirmative and defensive cases and specialized in supporting clients detained at Stewart Detention Center. In her former role as a Senior Paralegal at the San Francisco law firm of Van Der Hout LLP, she supported clients in applying for humanitarian forms of relief, family-based applications, waivers, naturalization, U-Visas, and VAWA petitions and worked on complex immigration cases involving criminal convictions. Given her wide-ranging expertise, she has served as a mentor to other paralegals learning the intricacies of immigration law.
EDUCATION Kathleen holds a BA in Political Science from Perimeter College-Georgia State University and a Paralegal Certificate from the University of Georgia. She is fluent in Spanish and speaks conversational Quechua.
