MANAGING ATTORNEY

Tania is an ILD Managing Attorney whose work focuses on representing noncitizens through ILD’s Legal-Education partnerships with the California State University (CSU) system and California Community Colleges (CCC), unique programs that provide immigration legal services to students and community members at dozens of public higher education campuses throughout the state. Tania also serves as appointed counsel for the National Qualified Representative Program (NQRP), where they represent persons deemed unable to represent themselves in removal proceedings due to mental and cognitive disabilities.

EXPERIENCE Prior to joining ILD, Tania worked at the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC), where they engaged in strategic appellate litigation and challenges to prolonged detention before federal courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA). Their work focused on representing LGBTQ individuals and persons living with severe mental and cognitive disabilities utilizing a holistic advocacy strategy in collaboration with policy advocates and grassroots organizations. Before joining NIJC, Tania worked as a staff attorney at the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) in Granger, Washington, representing individuals and families in their removal proceedings.


EDUCATION Tania holds a B.S. in Finance and Economics and a J.D. (magna cum laude) from Southern Illinois University. They are a member of the California bar.
